Abstract

The research aimed to address obedience to desires and whims by examining relevant verses of Quran. To this purpose، the descriptive-inductive method was used. It consisted of an introduction and four sections covering obedience to whims and its definition and explanation, the Quranic verses forbidding it and practical examples for it from the lives of individuals and their dealings, in addition to highlighting its effects on individuals and societies and the deserved penalties both in the here and the hereafter for those committing it. The research has led to several results, including that Allah Almighty in His Holy book has dispraised obedience to whims and warned His servants of it because it is contrary to His law and religion, that obedience to whims take different forms and manifestations in the practice of individuals, that committing it has serious implications in life and later after the death. The research also found out that obedience of whims is mostly committed among People of the Book and then, to varying extents, by Muslim believers.
